About Maasai Development Incorporated

Maasai Development Incorporated is a 501c3 IRS authorized Non-Profit Corporation based in Colorado.  It was established in 2021 to serve as a US marketing, fund raising and educational arm for the Maasai people of the Ngong Hills area of Kenya - a community of approximately 5000 people.   Funds that are donated to Maasai Development Incorporated through check, Credit Card or a peer-to-peer payment app such as Paypal, Venmo or Zelle are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.

Maasai Development Incorporated delivers the funds it raises by bank transfer to the Kenyan authorized NGO called MAGSA and it is from that entity that funds are used to pay for the projects described below.

Maasai Development Incorporated supports projects that benefit the whole Maasai community.  While they are certainly beneficial, we avoid projects that support only single individuals, for example funding a child’s education.  Such projects are much more difficult to track and can show favoritism.  Instead, our projects lift the community as a whole.

One such project was the completion of a well with a 10,000 liter storage tank.  Although the well was started before the incorporation of Maasai Development, funds for the final construction came through Maasai Development.  This well was a life saver – to both humans and livestock.  And, in the worst drought in Kenyan history, saving livestock also saved the livelihood of many people.  This well also supports production of vegetables to enhance the Maasai diet, which is typically lacking in diversity.  Supporters of Maasai Development also provided the funds used to build the “Castle Rock Day-Care and Primary School” named after Castle Rock, Colorado where Maasai Development is incorporate and from where most of the funds were raised.

During the Pandemic, Maasai Development provided funds for numerous community feeding and medical programs and to provide medical supplies, masks and hand washing items.

Our recent efforts have gone to building a Rescue Center called “Olmaroroi Centre of Excellence” which will open in mid 2024.  This rescue center will house up to 60 Young Ladies who have become homeless.

A building, a structure for rescued girls is not really a home until they know that they are safe and secure there and will be taken care of well into the future.  With that in mind, our next funding effort is to build a rolling 2-year operating fund for the Rescue Center.  It is estimated that it will cost approximately $1500 per month for food, security, electricity, clothes etc. to care for all the Young Ladies.Once the operating fund is developed, we plan to build other wells across the region.

Your Support for the Maasai

While individuals associated with Maasai Development may facilitate the planning related to a Maasai visit to the United States, their travel is funded by themselves and the Kenyan non-profit.  Maasai Development Incorporated is not responsible for any of the activities or events that take place during their visit and does not provide any insurance for such events.  In all cases, the individual or organization that is hosting the event is solely responsible for the events and activities that take place, and the Maasai attend at their own risk.
